Advice for Elderly clients We advise elderly clients and their families on such matters as: reducing the amount the local authority can take from their savings if they have to go into a care home; obtaining all the state benefits available to them. making Lasting Powers of Attorney - which appoint a relative or friend to look after their financial affairs - and implementing these if the person becomes mentally incapable; and advising the best course of action if there is neither an Enduring or a Lasting Power of Attorney. Note: Since 1st October 2007 it is no longer possible to make an Enduring Power of Attorney but one made before that date remains fully valid. It does not need to be replaced with a Lasting Power of Attorney, unless the person who made it wishes to extend it to cover matters relating to his or her welfare as well as financial matters.
